Feast Day of Mother Marta: A Celebration of Faith and Gratitude at DML Montessori
Every year, DML Montessori School of Quezon City sets aside a special day to honor Mother Marta Guglielmi, co-foundress of the Daughters of St. Mary of Leuca and the first superior of our school in New Manila. This year, the community gathered on July 29, 2026, at 8:00 AM, to celebrate her feast day with prayer, performances, and heartfelt gratitude.
For families new to DML, this celebration is more than a school event. It is a living reminder of who we are: a Catholic, congregation-run Montessori preschool that has been forming children in New Manila, Quezon City since 1970.
A Program Built on Faith
The Feast Day of Mother Marta opened with a prayer of thanksgiving, followed by a mini cultural presentation and a homage to the country performed by our young learners. A welcome address and the reading of the feast day greeting letter set the tone for the morning, honoring both the woman being celebrated and the values she carried into the founding of our school.
Each class then took its turn, offering a special class presentation for Mother Marta. Before every performance, the children brought a small gift, a gesture the school builds into the day intentionally, so that each presentation begins with a happy surprise for Mother Marta rather than simply a routine of songs and dances.
The MID class friends joined the celebration a little later in the morning, at 9:30 AM, so that every group, regardless of age, could take part in the joy of the day.
Why This Celebration Matters
Mother Marta, together with Mother Elisa Martinez, founded DML Montessori School in June 1970 with just 30 children. What began as a small preschool in a quiet New Manila neighborhood has grown into a community trusted by generations of families, many of whom are now enrolling their own children at DML.
Celebrating her feast day each year is our way of keeping that founding spirit alive. It is also a quiet expression of what makes DML different from other Montessori schools in Quezon City: our identity is not built around trends in early childhood education, but around a faith-centered mission carried forward by the Daughters of St. Mary of Leuca for over five decades.
This is part of what we mean when we describe DML as a Philippine-style Montessori school. Learning here is never separated from formation in faith, family, and community. A feast day celebration, a classroom lesson, and a parent conversation all carry the same spirit of care.
A School Rooted in New Manila
DML Montessori School of Quezon City sits at 46 7th St., New Manila, a neighborhood we have called home since 1970. Families from Barangay Mariana, Sta. Mesa Heights, Gilmore, and even San Juan City continue to choose DML because of this same quality: a preschool where faith is not an add-on, but the foundation.
Celebrations like the Feast Day of Mother Marta are a small window into everyday life at DML. They show what it looks like when children are taught not only academics, but gratitude, reverence, and joy in community. This is the same holistic development we bring into every classroom, every day, for children aged 1 year and 8 months to 5 years and 6 months.
